Pearl Jam played sold-out shows at Wrigley Field on August 20 and 22, 2016. The two concerts became Let’s Play Two, a film and accompanying soundtrack released the following year.
The project connects the performances with Eddie Vedder’s attachment to Chicago and the Cubs. Those August dates took place during the baseball season that would end in a Cubs World Series championship, giving the ballpark concerts a wider setting in the city’s year.
Wrigley is central to that story. The film’s subject is a band playing in a place with meaning for its singer, surrounded by another kind of hometown allegiance. The soundtrack lets the concerts stand on their own while the film keeps that baseball connection in view.
