Mad Season’s Moore Theatre Concert Survived on Film

Mad Season played Seattle’s Moore Theatre on April 29, 1995, creating the performance preserved as Live at the Moore. The show captured Layne Staley, Mike McCready, Barrett Martin and John Baker Saunders in the year of the band’s sole studio album, Above.

A concert video followed in August 1995. Later editions expanded the surviving presentation, including the full eleven-song set on the 2015 vinyl release. “Wake Up” and “River of Deceit” sit alongside the band’s version of John Lennon’s “I Don’t Wanna Be a Soldier.”

The Moore recording gives this short-lived collaboration a substantial stage document. It lets the songs be heard in performance, with the theatre’s name attached to the band’s recorded legacy as firmly as the album title.
