Nine Nights with the Smashing Pumpkins at the Orange Peel

The Smashing Pumpkins made Asheville an extended stop in 2007. From June 23 through July 5, the band played nine shows at the Orange Peel, a sold-out residency documented in contemporary tour coverage.
Billy Corgan and Jimmy Chamberlin were joined by a new lineup as the band prepared to release Zeitgeist. The residency announcement promised changing setlists, older songs, unreleased material and music from the coming album. Fans were invited to record the performances.
The arrangement gave the Orange Peel a role beyond hosting one night of a comeback tour. A run of shows in the same room created space for the band to work through material while audiences returned to hear what might change. Asheville became a sustained part of the Pumpkins’ return.
