Prince’s Final Concert Night Was at Atlanta’s Fox

Prince played two sold-out shows at Atlanta’s Fox Theatre on April 14, 2016. The Piano & A Microphone tour put his voice and keyboard playing at the center of the performance. The later show became his final public concert.

The Atlanta Journal-Constitution attended the early performance, describing a baby grand piano, candles and a video screen. Its review follows Prince moving through his catalog in stripped-down arrangements, with the songs carried by a single performer rather than a full band.

Those two Atlanta sets took on a different weight when Prince died a week later. The Fox’s place in the story rests on a specific evening: two concerts in one theater, and a final tour built around the simplest version of his stage setup.
