Prince

Prince often wrote, played and produced much of his own material, building the clipped drums, synthesizers and rhythm guitar associated with the Minneapolis sound. The funk of 1999, the band performances on Purple Rain and the varied arrangements of Sign o' the Times reveal different sides of that work. On stage, he moved between guitar, piano and tightly directed ensemble passages.
