Four Nights with Dr. Dog at The Independent

In February 2020, Dr. Dog settled into San Francisco’s Independent for four nights. Rather than repeat one set, the band treated the residency as a recording project, playing eighteen songs each evening.

The result was 72 live tracks spanning the band’s catalogue. The concerts were later issued night by night and collected as Four Nights Live in San Francisco, preserving four complete versions of a touring band shortly before Dr. Dog announced the end of regular touring.

That makes the run more than a long weekend on the calendar. At The Independent, a compact room became the setting for an unusually complete portrait of a band in motion, with the differences between nights left intact instead of reduced to a single best-of set.
