The National Previewed a New Album at Bearsville Theater

Only days before March 4, 2023, The National announced a show at Bearsville Theater. The intimate Woodstock date became an unusually complete preview of First Two Pages of Frankenstein before the album arrived.

Ten of the record’s eleven songs appeared in the 19-song set. “Once Upon a Poolside,” “New Order T-Shirt,” “Alien,” “Your Mind Is Not Your Friend” and “Send for Me” were among the live debuts.

What might have been a warm-up became an almost complete public first look. At Bearsville Theater, a small audience heard the shape of the next National record before most listeners knew it.
