Tedeschi Trucks Band Opened Daily’s Place with a Farewell

May 27, 2017 was supposed to be a straightforward celebration for Jacksonville: Tedeschi Trucks Band playing the first concert at Daily’s Place. Gregg Allman’s death that day gave the opening night another purpose.
The band began with the Allman Brothers Band’s Ain’t Wastin’ Time No More. For Derek Trucks, who had played alongside Allman, the choice carried a direct personal connection. The new amphitheater’s first audience heard a farewell before the evening moved through Tedeschi Trucks Band originals and covers.
During the encore, Susan Tedeschi acknowledged a difficult year of losses that also included Butch Trucks, Leon Russell and Col. Bruce Hampton. A Song for You and Statesboro Blues were part of that closing stretch. Daily’s Place entered Jacksonville’s concert history with a hometown band making space for grief inside an opening-night celebration.
