Spafford Made Room for Mazzy Star at Sweetwater

Spafford’s September 30, 2026 stop at Sweetwater Music Hall wandered freely through other people’s songbooks. Steve Miller Band’s Swingtown and JJ Grey and Mofro’s On Fire appeared alongside the band’s own material before the set turned unexpectedly toward Mazzy Star.

Late in the night, the band moved from On Fire into Fade Into You and then toward The Reprise, leaving the crowd noise and stage banter intact on the official recording. It is an easy snapshot of what the current Sweetwater can be: a small Mill Valley room where a band can follow an idea, borrow a familiar song and let the set find its own shape.
