The Sadies Gathered Their Musical Family at Lee’s Palace

The Sadies recorded In Concert: Volume One at Lee’s Palace on February 3 and 4, 2006. The Toronto club supplied the setting for a live release that made the band’s circle of collaborators part of the performance.

The credits include Neko Case, Garth Hudson, Gary Louris, Jon Spencer, Kelly Hogan and members of Blue Rodeo, among others. The resulting double album covers a broad stretch of music without losing the identity of the band hosting the gathering.

Released that August, it preserves more than a visiting act’s night in a club. Lee’s Palace became the meeting place for musicians whose paths crossed through the Sadies. The guest list is part of the story, but the room and the two recording dates keep that community portrait anchored to an actual Toronto event.
