Papadosio Brought Other People’s Ghosts to Boulder

Papadosio opened its October 27, 2017 Boulder Theater recording with “Da Funk.” The Daft Punk cover was the first clue that this Rave from the Grave set would have company.
Across the twelve-track release, the band threaded its own material around Nine Inch Nails’ “Into the Void” and “Closer,” plus the Smashing Pumpkins’ “Eye.” “Omnifreeze” stretched past twelve minutes, while the closing “How Not to Float” ran beyond sixteen.
The Halloween-season theme worked through the repertoire rather than a title alone. Familiar songs entered Papadosio’s longer-form live world, sharing space with improvisation and original pieces. Released ten days after the show, the recording lets listeners follow the whole route, from an electronic dance classic at the start to the extended closer.
