Record Stores in Austin

Texas music, Tejano and conjunto, specialist vinyl and store-to-show connections across Austin.

Austin gives a record-shopping day several distinct starting points. Waterloo now occupies 1105 North Lamar, after its 2025 move. Antone’s Record Shop remains on Guadalupe, close to Exploded Records upstairs in JuiceLand. South of the river, Turntable Records brings Tejano and conjunto into the plan, while End of an Ear opens out into experimental music, jazz, punk and records from much farther afield. Pick the selection first, then build the route around it.

The formats deserve the same attention as the neighbourhoods. CDs still matter at Waterloo, Antone’s, End of an Ear and Love Wheel. Breakaway gives LPs and 45s room beside stereo equipment. BLK’s used and collectable vinyl rewards attention to pressings, while Big Henry’s follows blues, funk and soul inside Antone’s Nightclub. The record shop on Guadalupe and the club downtown share roots; they are separate businesses at separate addresses.

North Loop and Justin Lane work as a northern leg. East Sixth and East Cesar Chavez offer another plan, with BLK and Drinks Records bringing different stock and opening patterns. Drinks operates inside a bar and publishes its own retail schedule. Exploded’s host-business setting also makes the entrance part of the directions.

If the day ends with live music, Big Henry’s has the clearest store-to-venue connection in this guide because it shares Antone’s address. Elsewhere, check the journey to the venue instead of assuming an Austin shop is close to the show. Confirm buying-counter hours before carrying in a collection, and keep records out of a hot parked car while extending the afternoon.

Neighborhood routes

Guadalupe and North Austin

Antone’s at 2928 Guadalupe and Exploded at 2828 form a compact pair; Exploded is upstairs inside JuiceLand. Breakaway on North Loop and Love Wheel on Justin Lane take the route farther north, with separate travel between those areas.

The east-side afternoon or evening

BLK Vinyl is at the eastern end of Sixth Street; Drinks Records is inside Drinks Lounge on East Cesar Chavez. Compare the two retail schedules before setting the order. The bar being open does not mean the record shop is open.

South Austin and the downtown connection

Turntable on South First and End of an Ear on Clawson serve different musical interests and need a travel leg between them. Downtown, Big Henry’s shares the Antone’s Nightclub address. Waterloo’s current North Lamar home is another central-city destination, not its old Sixth Street corner.
