Why it is worth visiting

Rough Trade at Rockefeller Center is a new-release stop with two parts to the visit. The street-level shop is joined by Rough Trade Below, a roughly 4,000-square-foot space on the rink level. Treat those as one connected destination rather than two interchangeable directory entries. The current Record Store Day programme and release activity make it useful for people following new vinyl, reissues and store events. It is also one of the easiest record stops to combine with a Midtown concert or a Rockefeller Center visit. For a CD-led day, Bookoff on West 45th offers a contrasting used selection nearby. Start at Rough Trade for the release list, then change shops when the aim becomes secondhand digging.

What you will find
