Dave Matthews Band asked fans heading to its September 2002 Gorge stand to photograph and videotape their journeys for possible use in a film. The invitation made the trip part of the event.

Professional cameras covered the performances and audience inside. The band’s catalogue later preserved the weekend as The Gorge 2002.

For a destination venue, inviting the audience to contribute its own footage was a fitting idea. The concert had a stage; the weekend had a much larger setting.
