The Story

Winterland Archive Edition

2000 Post Street. San Francisco.

Winterland started life as an ice-skating rink and eventually became one of the rooms where San Francisco learned how big a rock show could get without completely losing the feeling of a ballroom.

Bill Graham began promoting concerts there in the late 1960s. The broad floor and roughly 5,400-person capacity made it large enough for major acts while still feeling considerably more intimate than the arenas that followed.

The Band held their Thanksgiving farewell there on November 25, 1976, the concert later filmed as The Last Waltz. The Sex Pistols played their final performance there in January 1978. The Grateful Dead headlined Winterland's final New Year's Eve concert on December 31, 1978.

The Winterland Archive Edition records the room, its San Francisco address and three nights that now sit permanently in its history.

An original CouchLot venue-history print.

Edition of 50. Once this edition is gone, it will not be reprinted.

Edition Details

Each venue in The Rooms We Lost: Archive Editions is released in a strictly limited edition of 50.

The art print itself is produced on demand and is not individually numbered. Your order also includes a separate CouchLot archive pack containing an individually numbered edition placard and a souvenir ticket stub tied to one selected historic show at the venue.

Only 50 numbered placards will be issued for each venue edition.

Once all 50 are gone, that edition closes. The same design will not be reprinted.
