Van Andel Arena opened in 1996 and helped turn downtown Grand Rapids into a credible stop between Detroit and Chicago for major tours. The Griffins give it a strong hockey identity, but concerts are central to why the building matters to western Michigan.
Getting there
Van Andel Arena is one of the easier downtown arenas to reach on foot. Park in a central Grand Rapids ramp, walk through the Ionia Avenue area, and leave the car in place for dinner and the show.
Bag policy
Entry screening at Van Andel Arena follows the rule posted for the event configuration. Review the official venue policy on show day, especially if you need a medical, parenting or accessibility exception.
Local tips
This is an easy downtown arena to build a night around. Ionia Avenue and the surrounding blocks have plenty of food and bars, and most central hotels are walkable. Park once in a downtown ramp and avoid moving the car between dinner and doors.
