The Beatles compressed an extraordinary amount of musical change into a recording career of less than a decade. John Lennon, Paul McCartney, George Harrison and Ringo Starr moved from tightly arranged beat music into folk, Indian music, psychedelia and increasingly experimental studio work, making albums from Rubber Soul through Abbey Road reference points for modern pop and rock production.
