Legacy / Inactive

Fela Kuti developed Afrobeat through extended arrangements built from interlocking guitars, horns and percussion, with drummer Tony Allen central to the sound of Africa '70. Songs such as Zombie and Expensive Shit pair insistent grooves with pointed political writing. Performances often unfold slowly, allowing instrumental sections and call-and-response vocals to develop before the song reaches its full force.
