Billie Eilish records with her brother Finneas, building songs from close vocals, bass-heavy electronics and small production details. Ocean Eyes and the EP don't smile at me introduced that approach before WHEN WE ALL FALL ASLEEP, WHERE DO WE GO? expanded it into a full album. Happier Than Ever and HIT ME HARD AND SOFT gave the pair more room for abrupt shifts between restrained singing and louder arrangements.
