LCD Soundsystem Gave Brooklyn Steel Its First Five Nights

Brooklyn Steel began with a residency. LCD Soundsystem played the new venue’s opening shows on April 6, 7, 8, 10 and 11, 2017, giving the room five nights with the same band before its concert history widened.

The opening also caught LCD between its reunion and its next album. At the first show, the band introduced three new songs in the encore, including “American Dream.” The audience was hearing work in progress toward the group’s next release while helping inaugurate a new New York stage.

The band’s publicist announced the dates explicitly as Brooklyn Steel’s opening run. That makes the connection unusually direct: the venue’s first chapter and a new period in LCD’s recording life were taking shape together.
