Foo Fighters Opened the Atlantis with a D.C. Connection

Foo Fighters opened Washington’s Atlantis on May 30, 2023. For the first song, Dave Grohl welcomed Scream singer Pete Stahl to perform Bad Brains’ “At the Atlantis,” connecting the new club to the local music that preceded it.

The 450-person venue was built as a tribute to the original F Street 9:30 Club. It sits beside the later V Street 9:30 Club, making the opening a meeting of several chapters in Washington concert history.

DCist’s contemporary report describes a set that ran from shortly after 9:30 p.m. until midnight. The scale was small, but the performance was substantial. With Grohl’s former bandmate joining the opening number, the new room began by acknowledging the city’s earlier stages and the musicians who came through them.
