Why it matters
Velvet Underground began as a goth and industrial club on Toronto's Queen West strip in 1995. After a 2015 closure, Embrace Presents retained the name and transformed the room into a dedicated live music venue, reopening in February 2016. That transition preserved a familiar alternative-music address while creating a smaller stage for emerging touring acts. The venue announced that its lease would end in October 2025. Its history spans two distinct chapters: a late-night dance club and the concert room that followed.
