Why it matters
Richards on Richards grew into a well-loved Vancouver touring room at 1036 Richards Street. The address had earlier operated as a dance theatre and then the Laundromat, but those predecessor eras should not be credited indiscriminately to Richards. By the 2000s the club hosted acts such as Franz Ferdinand, the Hives and the Polyphonic Spree. Redevelopment ended its run on July 19, 2009. Contemporary reporting puts the club at 449 capacity, a reminder that significant music history also happened in rooms well below theatre scale.
