Why it matters

The Gillioz Theatre is one of Route 66's clearest surviving music-and-entertainment landmarks. It opened October 11, 1926, the same year the federal highway was created, and its Route 66 frontage was part of founder M.E. Gillioz's plan to draw travellers. Restored and reopened in 2006, the theatre now hosts concerts, film, comedy and theatre while actively celebrating both its own centennial and the Mother Road's.

Getting there

The Gillioz is at 325 Park Central East in downtown Springfield. It has no dedicated lot, but free and paid parking spaces and garages are within walking distance. Check downtown signage and allow extra time for major centennial or sold-out events.

Bag policy

All bags are subject to search. Large backpacks and other large bags are not allowed.

Local tips

Reserved-seat capacity is 1,015; general-admission shows can reach 1,300. Wheelchair-accessible floor spaces and companion seats are available by phone, but there is no elevator to the balcony. Doors normally open one hour before showtime.
