Why it matters
Bill Graham's Fillmore East operated at 105 Second Avenue for just over three years, from March 1968 to June 1971. The East Village theatre combined rock bills with the Joshua Light Show and became an important live-recording room. Its legacy is especially audible on the Allman Brothers Band's At Fillmore East. The former theatre had an earlier life in the neighbourhood's Yiddish entertainment district. Today, this is a historical venue entry, not a place to buy a concert ticket: the auditorium was later demolished, although part of the former entrance building survives.
