Why it matters
The Boston Tea Party opened in January 1967 at 53 Berkeley Street, inside a former Unitarian meeting house that had recently screened underground films. Weekend dance concerts grew into a venue for local bands and touring rock and blues musicians. The club moved to a larger Lansdowne Street room in July 1969 and closed in December 1970. Its original building later received a historical marker. Its short history spans two rooms, with the Berkeley Street chapter preceding the move to Lansdowne.
