Why it is worth visiting

Found Sound gives a Ferndale shopping day a proper record-store anchor. The West Nine Mile shop grew out of staff experience at Record Time and carries new and used music rather than committing the whole floor to a single scene. It is a sensible place to compare a new pressing with whatever has arrived secondhand, with CDs also represented. Ferndale deserves its own name in the route: this is north of Detroit, in a different downtown. Build some browsing time around that location instead of adding it to a hurried circuit of central-city shops.

What you will find

New and used vinyl and CDs, with current releases, catalogue records and local music. The store’s social feed is the place to check release-day notices and shop updates.

Genre strengths: Rock, Local

Getting there

234 West Nine Mile Road in downtown Ferndale, west of Woodward. UHF in Royal Oak and Street Corner in Oak Park require separate travel legs from here.

Local tips

Make Ferndale the neighbourhood stop and choose any next shop by the records you want, not by its place on a metro-wide list. Royal Oak, Oak Park and Berkley are different destinations.
