Tara MacLean began releasing solo records with Nettwerk in the 1990s and later joined the Canadian vocal group Shaye. Her folk-pop writing centres on clear melodies and personal stories, with acoustic arrangements that leave room for the voice. The Prince Edward Island songwriter paired her memoir Song of the Sparrow with the album Sparrow, revisiting her life through both prose and music.
