Ricky Skaggs & Kentucky Thunder place Skaggs' mandolin and lead singing inside a full acoustic bluegrass band, with fiddle, banjo, guitars and bass supporting close vocal harmonies. Records such as Bluegrass Rules! and Live at the Charleston Music Hall draw on the tradition Skaggs learned with Ralph Stanley and J. D. Crowe, alongside his own arrangements and instrumental work.
