Legacy / Inactive

Duke Ellington wrote for the individual sounds of his orchestra, using players such as Johnny Hodges as part of the composition itself. His work ranges from short pieces including Mood Indigo to extended suites such as Black, Brown and Beige. A long partnership with Billy Strayhorn added another writing voice; Take the 'A' Train became one of the orchestra's signature pieces.
