Ani DiFranco

Ani DiFranco built an unusually independent career by founding Righteous Babe Records in 1990 and releasing her own work outside the major-label system. Her percussive guitar style and direct writing started from folk but regularly absorbed punk, funk, jazz, soul and spoken-word influence, making the business model and the music equally central to her reputation.
