The music for Phish’s April 18–21, 2024 Sphere run extended beyond the four shows. Trey Anastasio composed and recorded six instrumental guitar pieces specifically for the building’s atrium and public spaces.
Those pieces became ATRIUMS, his solo release issued that September. Recorded with producer Vance Powell at Sputnik Sound in Nashville, the music had been made for the experience of moving through Sphere before and around the main performance.
The distinction is easy to miss in a venue known for its auditorium. Phish announced four unique shows, but Anastasio also wrote for the spaces connecting the entrance to the seats. That music gave the building another layer: material created for the audience’s passage through it, then given a separate life as a recording.
