Phish played their second headline show at Saratoga Performing Arts Center on June 26, 1995. The next day, A Live One arrived in record stores. At SPAC, the band was already playing music that pointed beyond that first live album.
Digital multitrack recorders captured the concert. The second set included the first pairing of “Down with Disease” into “Free,” followed by further stretches linking songs together. In 2017, Phish selected the recording for an official LivePhish archival release.
The timing gives this Saratoga Springs date a useful double perspective. It sits on the eve of one live document’s release while generating another that listeners would hear years later. The room’s place in the story is preserved in the performance itself.
