Continental Club live music venue in Austin, Texas

Junior Brown Made the Continental Club a Weekly Stop

When Junior Brown and his band moved into Austin’s music scene in the early 1990s, they landed a weekly engagement at the Continental Club. His own biography connects that period with the growing audience for his singing, songwriting and unusual double-necked Guit-Steel.

The instrument combined standard guitar and steel guitar, letting Brown move between the two while singing. A regular club booking gave that distinctive setup a recurring Austin stage, with Tanya Rae Brown among the musicians in the band.

The relationship later reached record shelves. Live at the Continental Club, released in September 2005, includes Highway Patrol and My Wife Thinks You’re Dead. The album’s title preserves the room behind the residency, even as Brown’s touring career carried him elsewhere.
