JRAD’s 100th Show and First Original at Brooklyn Bowl

On March 9, 2017, Joe Russo’s Almost Dead returned to Brooklyn Bowl for its 100th show. It was the same venue where the band had played its first concert.
Near the end of the opening set, JRAD stepped beyond its usual framework of reworking the Grateful Dead catalogue. “Keeping It Simple” received its debut as the group’s first original song.
The milestone made Brooklyn Bowl both the starting line and a point of change. A band founded around interpretation used its centennial show to put its own writing into the set.
