The Eagles Played Hotel California Before Its Release at the Forum

The Forum audience heard Eagles at a turning point in October 1976. During a three-night run, the band played some of the earliest live versions of Hotel California and New Kid in Town while finishing the album that would arrive that December.
The recordings also include established material and Joe Walsh’s Funk #49, connecting the new songs with music already familiar to the crowd. Ten performances later appeared as Live at the Forum ’76.
The venue was simply the Forum then, decades before the Kia name. Its place in this release is unusually precise: a room where an already successful band tried out songs just before those songs became central to its identity.
