The Mint Jam That Made DOMi & JD BECK a Duo

DOMi and JD BECK first played together at NAMM in 2018, but a convention-floor introduction was only the beginning. A later Los Angeles jam at The Mint gave them room to actually play, talk and hear where the partnership might go.

In a DownBeat interview, DOMi remembered the session in direct terms: “that’s when we became friends.” Away from the pressure and noise of the trade-show setting, the musicians found the personal connection behind the speed, precision and musical conversation that would define their work together.

The duo later made NOT TiGHT and developed a sound that resists easy categories. The role of The Mint in that story is intimate rather than spectacular: it was the small room between a chance introduction and a real band.
